Cardigan Granny Onctueux — the summery freshness of crochet

Designed in our workshops, the Cardigan Granny Onctueux is a must-have summer crochet piece: a short, front-opening cardigan, with a round neckline and long sleeves, made entirely of granny squares with a raised floral rosette. Two-tone white and linen, it can be worn just as well over a ribbed top as over a light dress for the cool of the late afternoon.

The art of the granny reimagined

Each granny square measures 11 × 11 cm and is made up of 5 rounds: a heart in a popcorn rosette forming 16 radiating petals in the linen colour, widened by 2 rounds of openwork treble groups, then edged with a final round of double crochet in white. It is this contrast of white edges around the linen rosettes that gives the cardigan its graphic, luminous look.

The cardigan is constructed as a flat T: a central back, two side sleeves, two open fronts. Depending on the size, you assemble 57 to 77 whole squares, with 20 half-squares added to adjust the sides and the neckline. Once the squares are crocheted and blocked flat, assembly is done with white slip stitches, which form the fine dividing lines between the motifs.

Our Coton Onctueux 4 is a 100% cotton yarn, matt and round, with a soft twist and a creamy feel — hence its name. With a length of 100 m / 50 g, it gives an excellent result for granny squares: the popcorns stand out in relief without weighing down, and the openwork stays well defined. The matt cotton absorbs the light beautifully, which sets off the white/linen contrast.

For this design, you will need Coton Onctueux 4 in the white and linen colours, in a quantity that varies with the size (11 to 13 balls per colour).
